Simple Philosophies: May
Flowers are really nice- I think we can mostly agree- but they aren’t always for writers. At times, we think that we have to have a 700-word lumping of paragraphs and seas of text for the eyes to glance over in order to spark any sense of legitimacy in our thesis, but if I’ve learned anything in the past year it’s that short really is sweet. An aphorism (night before the AP Lang test, folks!) is a short statement that conveys a whole lot of truth in it, and that’s what we writers use sometimes to weed out any extra of those flowers. Since it’s May, you may imagine that we need these weed whackers the most. And you’re right. If you’re going to say anything, say it the right way, am I right? That’s why this month is dedicated to simple, short, and sweet- mini philosophies are the focus of May, simply because we want to rid ourselves of any extraneous words, sentiments, or logical progressions and just focus on the real core of our point. In how few words can you make your point? I smell a budding challenge.
